German Friendship

When I was young
I was so alone
And did not know why

How I missed you
My Jewish companions
My friends of the past
of a different future
without this hate
and this killing

I was so alone

And when I knew why
I searched and I found you
My dear companions
Restoring to you
in our homeland
in Germany
the place which is yours

And then I started
to speak to you
tried to fill the chasms
to heal the wounds
to ease the pain

And found
no comfort
because you are gone

And try
to live
with this
